Pastel paintings by Lydia Pottoff are on display in Gallery I of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) August 4 through 30. The paintings are based on the artist's travels to Africa, Asia, and the Czech Republic. Pottoff chooses pastels over other media because they create shimmering, heightened color effects and they support freedom of spontaneity in her work.

Auditions for soprano, alto, tenor and bass will be held from July 21 through August 10. E-email a brief choral/vocal resume to Tom Morgan, Artistic Director (tom@arsnovasingers.org) to schedule. The 15 minute audtion should include one prepared song (any language, no jazz/gospel/showtunes), sight-reading, tonal memory, and general vocalizaton. An accompanist is provided.

Stop by the McGuckin Design Center to see Leah Prusiner's exhibit, 'Do One Thing That Scares You Everyday.' The exhibit is on display through September.

Leah says, 'My paintings are done with acrylic and ink. They explore colors and forming shapes out of layering colors, ink washes and lines. They are non-objective, meaning they do not reference any images, but the shapes that are formed come from my imagination and emotions.'

A portion of the proceeds from the sales of Leah's work benefits the many artist services of Boulder County Arts Alliance. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = 'urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office' />

Looking for dancers, teachers, choreographers, performers, studios and schools to join in a free, fun, family-friendly showcase of dance.  All genres of dance, beginner through professional level welcome!  A great way to perform and interact with an audience in an informal setting.  Time slots vary from 5 – 15 min. and may include: finished pieces or work-in-progress, a mini class or lecture demonstration with audience participation, a structured improvisation, or short original dance film.  (More than one time slots may be available, but not back to back).

‘Brilliant and Quirky’, is an art exhibit bursting with vibrancy and uniqueness. The exhibit features new works by artists Sara L. Broers Brown's acrylic collages and Scott Church showing abstract organic flowers. Jessica Gonacha of Duluth, Georgia, uses elements of conventional painting with the use of material drawn from her childhood, such as glitter and orgaimi paper. Lyons artist, Jill Musser presents large. vibrant oil paintings of fruit, vegetables and flowers. The thickness of the paint produces highly textured works leaving the viewer to feel as though the artist were sculpting and carving as well as painting.The combined efforts or these artists promises to push the limits and intensify the viewing experience for an exceptional and fanciful display.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = 'urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office' />

Adapted by Peter Glazer from the words and songs of Woody Guthrie.

When Woody Guthrie sang about hard times, he knew what he was singing about -- the Depression, the Dust Bowl, high unemployment, and impending war.  But he also knew more than a little about the juice and joy of being alive and being an American.  The musical, Woody Guthrie's American Song, tells his life story following Guthrie as he travels west from Oklahoma to the migrant camps, from 'California to the New York Island.'  The musical includes over two dozen songs, including So Long, It's Been Good to Know Yuh, Bound for Glory, and, of course, This Land Is Your Land.  The New York Times said it 'manages to find both the high beauty and the earthy humor of Guthrie's love affair with America.' Barack Obama's historic candidacy has sparked an unprecedented artistic outpouring. Now, in partnership with Shepard Fairey and his Obey Giant collective, we're offering a new way for artists—anyone with a pen and paper qualifies—to share their talents and help elect Barack Obama at the same time.

It's called Manifest Hope, and it's a new Obama art contest for 2D and 3D art, from painting to photography to sculpture. The winners will be shown at the Manifest Hope Gallery online and in Denver during the Democratic convention alongside works from dozens of established and influential artists.

Anyone can enter. You don't have to be Picasso, you just need to be inspired by Barack Obama and willing to donate your creativity and time to the cause.

But you need to get started soon. The final submissions deadline is August 18th at 11:59 a.m. ET. That's not much time to conceive and create a piece of art, so get started today.

All submissions will be judged by a distinguished panel of judges—artists from Obey Giant, contemporary art curators, and multi-talented musicians. Finalists will be asked to auction off their pieces, and donate the proceeds to progressive organizations.

Denver will be buzzing during the convention, but this gallery is going to be one of the coolest places to visit there. Plus, the gallery's going to have an amazing party with live performances by Death Cab For Cutie, Moby, and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.

In the modern world of agribusiness and factory farms, some family farms survive, and even thrive. Photographer Jane Gabrilove has spent the last two years photographing Zweck’s Farm, a Centennial Farm on the western edge of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = 'urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags' />Longmont. An exhibit of her photographs, On Zweck’s Farm, opens July 19 and runs through August 24, 2008. Visitors to On Zweck’s Farm will see color photos that document each season in the life of this small modern farm, plus farm and beekeeping equipment.

The Museum<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = 'urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office' /> is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm, Wednesday from 9 am to 8 pm, and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm. Closed Monday.
