Color Boxes
These color field pieces emphasize bold colors and strong textures on woven linen strips or on masonite. The artist enjoys working with squares - either a grid of squares within a piece or on a square format canvas. Many of the pieces incorporate salvaged metal and hardware.

Up until the last few years, I felt passion was missing in my life, and then one day I picked up a paintbrush, quite on a whim, and found I couldn't put it down.
Outside of a very helpful drawing class, I've received no formal art instruction. Not knowing the rules has some real advantages, namely that I work on a less analytical, rule-bound way than I, product of a parochial school discipline, would otherwise. This approach has helped me develop an intuitive, primitive style that is my own for better or worse.
I love working with highly saturated hues, creating strong texture and dimensionality through mixed media, and incorporating recycled materials into my pieces.
For me, painting is a joyful balancing act where I create a composition, then paint with abandonment within it. When I succeed, the result is a balance between order and randomness, boldness and subtlety. I suppose this is how I try to lead my life too, though perhaps not as successfully.
