Writing the One-Act Play

Tuesday evenings, 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

June 8th through July 25th

(No classes June 29th or July 6th)

Noted playwright and teacher William C. Kovacsik, author of BETC's popular and critical hit Morisot Reclining and Professor of Dramatic Writing at the Tisch School for the Arts in Singapore, will introduce students to the techniques used by dramatists to create compelling theatre. Students will be introduced to the basic principles of story-telling for the stage, including character development, dramatic action, conflict, and structure. The first three weeks will be devoted to exercises that will familiarize students with the basic tools available to playwrights. During the final three weeks, each student will write and workshop a one-act play.

In addition to creating their own work, students will read several classic one-act plays from the American repertoire.
