OLDER BOULDER ARTIST SHOWA senior citizen watercolor class, taught by long time Bolder Boulder poster artist Anne Gifford, has created the paintings displayed in this year’s Third Annual Older Boulder show. The students range in age from 55 to 90 years old. Each week, we tackle new subject matter, which allows us to try our hand at using the different elements that are involved in creating a strong watercolor painting. We spend a lot of time exploring texture: see if you can find where the artists have applied salt, saran wrap, and/or waxed paper directly to the wet paint. Color theory plays a large part in our paintings as well: if we use a certain color in one section of the painting, we try to pick that same color up in at least two other areas of the piece, even if the accent is as small as the size of a pencil eraser. Using color in this way, combined with strong composition, comprise two of the ways we are learning to coax the viewer’s eye to travel around the finished work We have a great deal of fun sharing a common enthusiasm for art, and we hope you will be able to grasp this spirit in our paintings, and that you enjoy our show. If you would like to join us or for more information about the class, please contact Anne Gifford at 720-472-4990 or email annegifford@comcast.net We meet at the East Boulder Senior (Recreation) Center on Friday mornings.
