A Concert Featuring Contemporary Compositions for Choir
Conducted by Christine Gaudreau

This unique concert features choral compositions based on poetry and images from nature including works by contemporary composers Ola Gjeilo, Frank Ticheli, and Eric Whitacre. The choir is under the direction of the Chorale’s artistic and musical director Christine Gaudreau, now in her seventh season at the helm of the organization. The program includes works ranging from Gjeilo’s inspiring Sommarpsalm from his Sunrise Mass to Whitacre’s playful Animal Crackers, based on poetry by Ogden Nash. In addition to pianist Mallory Bernstein, acclaimed guitarist Michael Mandrell and a string quartet from the University of Denver will accompany the choir. The instrumentalists are Yuanmiao Li (violin 1), Quanshuai Li (violin 2), Vela Farquharson (cello), and Link Spaulding (viola).

To enhance the audience’s experience there will be a visual element to the concert – the Evergreen Chorale has partnered with the Center for the Arts Evergreen to create a presentation of the work of local photographers. The Chorale and Center for the Arts collaborate in many ways to share visual and performance art with the mountain area, and so this partnership came together very organically. Pat Magerkurth of the Chorale is working with Steve Sumner and Stephanie O’Malley of Center for the Arts to curate the presentation, reviewing well over 500 photos submitted by both professional and amateur artists with photos from Africa, Iceland, South America and (of course) the Rocky Mountains. “There is so much artistic talent in this community, and this concert gives us the opportunity to showcase the work of our local photographers in a unique way” said Magerkurth. “Having the beautiful photography to reflect upon while listening to the music raises the audience’s experience to a higher level.”

This is the final production of the Chorale’s very successful 2016-17 season, which included My Fair Lady for which they received 8 awards from Broadway World Denverand a sold-out run of Billy Elliot The Musical which they performed at Center Stage in Evergreen and at the Colorado Ballet’s Armstrong Center for DanceSwing Into Spring”, the Chorale’s third annual swing dance party with William and the Romantics, will take place at the Evergreen Lake House on May 5, 2017. This popular event is open to the public and reservations should be made in advance. It is a fundraiser for scholarships for Summer Music Camp and also for the operation of Center Stage, Evergreen’s historic theater which is owned by the Chorale.
