Generating critical reviews and/or promotional copy
Tue, 02/09/2010 - 2:30pm
Would some groups like to join together and hire a professional reviewer like Marc Shulgold? I think The Boulder Bach Festival is already starting to do this and might like partners. Would others like to join a writing pool to review each others' shows, generating positive pro bono copy content for websites and promoneeds?

Yes, I think Cantabile would be interested in persuing this. It would partly depend on cost but would be a good "problem solver." Thank you for starting this interest.

The Boulder Music Alliance doesn't give performances, so we wouldn't be interested in a reviewer, but for promoting our project (to build a music performance center), we might be interested.

The reviews would be great. It would be great if there could be more Previews too, since there is usually only one concert. The excuse that I get from the Longmont paper is that they are over worked in the 40hrs the reporters put in and that they just can't make the time to get to concerts. So we are usually pretty lucky just to get a preview.

Tracy, we'll probably discuss this more at our next Music FAN meetup on March 24 at the Happy Noodle House, 5-7pm. Join us if you can. There are several ideas on the table, and a lot of interest in collaboration.

Coming from Longmont, I will probably be running a little late, but will get there. |

Hi John- I am meeting with the marketing folks at Central City to talk about this very idea. We were thinking of this as part of an expanded Colorado Music Alliance. Currently the CMA is for summer classical music and opera festivals in CO, but thinking to expand it to include ALL classical music and opera organizations (year round) in CO and using this idea as a launching point. Perhaps a review focused blog that has unpaid community submissions and then paid writer submissions. We can talk more about this later this week.
