BCAA Art on the Walls exhibit "
Childish Endeavors" featuring the works of Timolyn Esson.
Childish Endeavors is my attempt to bring together the things that inspire me most, which are color, children, and the innocence of youth. I love the feel of a new box of Crayolas. My favorite is the 96-parck with built in sharpener. I remember the first day of each new school year and the ultimate day when Magenta was gone. I love a child's face, their eyes, and their hands. I love their simple gestures and unabashed moods. I love freckles, curly hair and crazy teeth. I love when I come upon something true, something innocent, in today's frantic society. When it happens, it steals the moment and simplifies my life, if only for that moment.
My artwork is a reflection of the different roles I play in life. I strive to find balance between being a woman, a mother, and a daughter. I seek to understand how these characters interact and rely upon one another to become whole. By opening up the dialogue between these personalities and the expectations that run along side them, I am able to identify conflict and concord. As I investigate these issues, I discover that the simple acts of conversing and creating is the thread that ties my life and my spirituality together.
