WOW Children’s Museum Community Art Garden Request for Proposals

Printer-friendly version

Background

WOW! Children's Museum is working with community members and the City of Lafayette to create a community art garden on the north side of the Museum's exterior. We wish to have an artist-led engagement and design process for the three sculptural pieces that will be included in the garden. The artist will work with local organizations, community members, and other partners to design creative pieces to complement the new garden. The city-owned site, on North Harrison Avenue and just off of South Public Road, is currently rock and cement sidewalk. The future site will consist of natural play features, such as boulders and stumps, locally significant plants, a mural commissioned by Art T Choate (created by artists Tif Choate, Sarah Spencer and community members) and other artistic elements. The landscape plan includes three concrete pads ranging in size from 3x3' to 4x4' for the installation of permanent art pieces. We wish for the art to mimic the demographics of our community and for it to demonstrate the Museum's commitment to diversity and inclusion. The project scope will include deep community engagement and artistic workshops for the community. The maximum budget for all three art pieces is $30,000 including installation. The Artist must propose a budget which includes an artist fee and project costs including, but not limited to, preparation for installation on the predetermined concrete pads mentioned above.
