Artists have always been instrumental in envisioning new futures and creative solutions. Engaging in the policymaking process at a local, state and/or federal level is an important way to make systemic and sustainable change. Together, we can advocate for arts, culture and creative industries to support our community well-being, economic vitality and overall quality of life. There have been some exciting recent developments in Colorado to align priorities and build momentum at the state legislature. This workshop will provide an overview of that progress and Colorado’s Arts Policy Framework, an intentional and inclusive advocacy voice and roadmap for Colorado’s arts & culture sector. We will also provide a summary of the recently completed 2026 legislative session, including a bill to form a new type of business entity just for artists. The conversation will be led by Meredith Badler, Deputy Director at Colorado Business Committee for the Arts (CBCA). As a 501c3 nonprofit, CBCA advances Colorado’s creative economy by connecting arts and business. Since 2020, CBCA has filled the role as our state arts advocacy organization and led a variety of lobbying and capacity-building initiatives, including administering the Colorado Art Action Network.
