AUDIENCE: Executive Directors, Board members

GOALS OF TRAINING:

  • Discuss effective methods in attracting and retaining diverse populations on your board and staff while avoiding the common phrase of “there’s not enough people out there to fill these positions;”
  • Discuss how to value those diverse contributors within your organizations without tokenizing, vilifying, demoralizing or dismissing them while recognizing that boards and staffs today should be representatives of our world at large;
  • Understand issues of white privilege, cultural appropriation, bias, etc. and how they appear in nonprofit settings;
  • Discuss how one can be an ally in our rapidly diverse world;
  • Define and discuss microaggressions, white privilege, and cultural appropriation and how they appear in everyday life;
  • Recognize the power of culture as it is beyond race/ethnicity.
