BCAA welcomes Tariana Navas-Nieves, Director of Cultural Affairs for Denver Arts & Venues (DAV) to present on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in the arts. Tariana has 30 years of experience in management, equity and race and social justice work. She was appointed by the Mayor Michael Hancock to serve on the City’s Equity Leadership Team (ELT), responsible for establishing the first Office of Social Equity & Innovation for the city and the oversight and implementation of the City’s equity goals working with all City agencies and ~13K employees. Tariana serves on national, regional and local boards and advisory groups including: Grantmakers in the Arts (Vice Chair), Philanthropy Colorado (Vice Chair), Philanthropy Colorado Arts & Culture Funders (Co-Chair), Colorado Business Committee for the Arts (CBCA), and the Community ACTS Fund focused on funding to support BIPOC, people with disabilities, LGBTQIA+, and other historically marginalized communities.

Addressing Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in the arts requires an understanding of how these values can be operationalized and woven into all aspects of your organization. More than ever, funders are looking at how artists and cultural organizations are centering EDI into their work. How do you begin to develop an equity practice? How do show your commitment to EDI in your grant proposals? Please join us in welcoming Tariana Navas-Nieves, Director of Cultural Affairs for Denver Arts & Venues and member of the City & County of Denver’s Equity Leadership Team, as she shares steps to take toward meaningful action on EDI and keeping EDI in the forefront of your artistic endeavors.
