Pathways to Jazz Grants

Coaching Session: Monday, June 6 7:30 -8:30 pm
Dairy Center for the Arts, Conference Room, 2590 Walnut St, Boulder

The deadline to apply for the Pathways to Jazz Grant is Thursday, June 30 at 5 pm.  There will be a free coaching session in the Conference Room, across the hall from BCAA's office in the Dairy Center for the Arts on Monday, June 6 at 7:30 pm. Register for coaching session here.

BCAA's Executive Director, Charlotte LaSasso and Pathways to Jazz Administrator, Sarah Goodroad, will answer your questions about filling out the application and explain the requirements for this donor-advised grant.

During her travels, previous Pathways to Jazz recipient Barbara Paris befriended jazz painter, Sacha Chimkevitch, who gave Barbara a painting he created that was inspired by her (image right). This image was used for the CD cover for "Nine Decades of Jazz," released in May 2016.  It includes recordings with
pianist Billy Wallace, Barbara Paris on vocals, Jill Fredrickson on drums, and Ken Walker on bass.

Arts for All Children - Grants for Teachers

Application available online.
Deadline (extended!) to apply is Thursday, June 23 at 5 pm

Are you a music or dance instructor in Boulder County? Could you identify students who need tuition assistance with lessons?  If so, that is exactly what the Arts for All Children grants can do for you and your students. Teachers can apply for funds to award scholarships or purchase instruments for kids. 100% of the grant needs to cover the cost of instruments or lessons; it is not for administrative fees.

This grant is made possible through the generosity of The Blessing Foundation, as well as through private individual donors.  To make a donation to Arts for All Children, click here.

Professional Artists Forum

Tuesday, June 14 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm

Boulder Creek Room, Boulder Public Library, 1001 Arapahoe Ave.

Hosted by the Office of Arts + Culture and Boulder County Arts Alliance.

The community priorities for culture found in the Community Cultural Plan include clear direction that we all need to work together to make Boulder a great city for artists.

To understand the challenges and opportunities that are unique to Boulder, the Office of Arts + Culture is convening this first forum for professional artists in all disciplines. Facilitated by Tatiana Hernandez of the Hemera Foundation and Mark Villarreal of the Boulder Arts Commission, this conversation will investigate the challenges artists face in Boulder and the solutions we should prioritize. Officials from municipal departments, including the Office of Arts + Culture and the Planning Department will be on hand to listen and answer your questions.

RSVP here to reserve a place. A short survey will be sent to those attending that will help inform the direction and conversation at this forum.

Note: Parking at the Main Library / Civic Area has changed. Read more.

Dawn DeAno, Creator, Stories to Tell - Barn Quilts of Boulder County

Stories to Tell--Barn Quilts of Boulder County is a public arts and heritage project that will culminate in a trail of 20 large scale colorfully painted installations of historically significant quilt block designs mounted to barn exteriors.

The creator of this endeavor, Dawn DeAno, will be available on June 17 at Lafayette's Art Night Out from 5-9 pm and on June 29 at the Boulder Farmer’s Market from 3-8 pm to demonstrate the making of the barn quilts. The public, young and old, will be invited to participate in the painting of this barn quilt and learn more about this Boulder County public art and heritage project that is taking root.

In Lafayette, you can participate in making 'Doves in the Window' which is destined to reside at the Pachamama Farm and Wellness location, set in a beautiful hillside in Longmont.  At the Boulder event, take part in creating ‘Flat Iron.' This installation will reside at the 100+ year old barn located at 6801 Baseline, owned by the Christian family.

Barn quilts have existed for generations, but a revival of interest began in 2000. Since then, barn quilt installations have been completed nationwide, including Morgan County, Colorado, to promote rural landscapes, agricultural traditions, and awareness and knowledge of quilting traditions.

This project promotes the unique Colorado landscape and also calls attention to the geography of “we”: the diverse social and cultural populations and individuals who have influenced Boulder County. Just as cloth quilts have historically been used as a medium for storytelling, each of these contemporary barn quilt installations will commemorate a person from Boulder County who has impacted the area.

This project is sponsored by the City of Lafayette Cultural Arts Commission's Public Art Committee, The National Quilting Association, Inc., and BCAA.

For the last 10 years DeAno has been a portrait photographer and catalyst for community engagement. She is passionate about the use of creative expression in communities and working for justice, equality and compassion.
