Arts on the River

Sunday, August 28 from 12 - 5 pm

River Bend, 501 West Main St, Lyons

Join us for this Boulder County Artists' Group Show, held along the beautiful backdrop of the North Saint Vrain Creek in Lyons at River Bend. Admission is FREE!

Artists of all mediums will be selling their work at the event. There will be food trucks and libations from Sugar Pine, Button Rock Bakery, The Fork, Oskar Blues, Garnish, Spirit Hounds Distillers, and B Town Wine + Spirits.

For 2016 we are excited to announce that this event will be held in conjunction with Sounds of Lyons. For a list of participating artists and a schedule of live performances, click here.

Arts on the River is a fundraiser for BCAA and the Lyons Arts and Humanities Commission. Volunteers are always needed and appreciated! We could use help with setup for the event. If you are interested, please contact Charlotte LaSasso, BCAA Executive Director, 303-447-2422.

Culinary Farm Dinners to Benefit Arts on the River and BCAA

Wednesdays, August 10 and August 17 from 6 - 9 pm
The Lyons Farmette, 4121 Ute Hwy, Lyons

Don't miss these multi-course culinary experiences under the stars and your chance to celebrate the summer harvest at The Lyons Farmette.

On August 10, Chef Grant Buchanan of GB Culinary will create a delectable 3-course farm dinner using fresh local ingredients sourced from his own Peachtree Farmstead in Longmont, the Lyons Farmette, and other farms local to Boulder County.

This farm dinner is a benefit for Arts on the River. The Lyons Arts and Humanities Commission will be selling wine and beer at the dinner to benefit this event.

On August 17, join Blackbelly chef Hosea Rosenberg and his culinary dream team for a seasonal multi-course dinner prepared with hand-chosen ingredients from the Farmette. The amazing food and unparalleled service make this an unforgettable private chef experience. 

This farm dinner is a benefit for Boulder County Arts Alliance. BCAA will be selling wine and beer at the dinner. There will be a wonderful selection to complement the menu.

Call to Artists

Indoor Mural to be commissioned for the Kroger Company

Selected Artist to receive $7500

Apply here before 5 pm on August 15, 2016.

Open to all artists.  Priority given to artists living in Boulder and Weld Counties. 

BCAA in association with the Kroger Company, seeks local artists interested in creating an indoor mural measuring 12.5'W x 5'H in Erie, CO. This artwork will have high visibility and will be prominently displayed within the store. The artwork should use local references to evoke a creative uplifting feeling that encourages community and celebrates the spirit of the neighborhood.

There is no application fee to enter.  Finalists will be chosen based on their examples of work and their connection to the community in which the store resides.  Finalists will receive a $250 stipend for submitting a proposal.  One of the finalists submitting a proposal will be chosen to create the artwork for the location.  Payment to the selected artist is $7500.

Timeline

  • Call to Artists:  Open through August 15
  • Finalists Selected: August 17
  • Proposals Due: August 31
  • Proposal Selected/Artist chosen: September 2
  • Installation: mid-October

BCAA Endowment Grants

Deadline to apply is August 11, 2016 at 5 pm

During the fall funding cycle organizations and individual artists may apply for project grants. Individual artists and organizations may only receive one grant per calendar year and may not receive grants in two consecutive cycles. Awards are between $1000 - $5000.

Project grants will be awarded to support artistically excellent work that has a broad impact on the community. Impact may include outreach efforts, audience education, collaborations, and partnerships. Individual artists may include equipment in their project requests. The following criteria are used to evaluate individual project support applications:

  • Artistic excellence of the proposed project
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out project
  • Impact on the community
  • Impact on the artist's career
  • Evidence of need
  • Project takes place during the year following the grant award

Save the Dates for Cultural Competency Workshops

Tuesdays, September 27, October 18 and November 1

For Funders, Grant Applicants, Executive Directors and Board Members

 

Make sure to have a representative from your organization at these upcoming training sessions with Johanna B. Maes, Ph.D.  Topics to be discussed include: 

  • Defining Diversity and Inclusivity in your Nonprofit Setting
  • How to Diversify Your Organization on the Board and Staff Levels 
  • Combatting Cultural Appropriation in Nonprofits

The September and November sessions will be in the early evening, and the October session will be in the middle of the day. Sessions will be held in Boulder.  Location to be announced. Space is limited and advance registration required. Registration will open soon.

Who's in the Limelight?

Catherine Carilli, Painter and Instructor

Participating Artist in Arts on the River

“Art has been the anchor and the force behind my life for as long as I can remember. Making art, seeing art, living with art are essential to who I am. Sharing what I do, and teaching others to enjoy art is so important.” - Catherine Carilli

Catherine Carilli is a professional artist with an MFA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Her focus is on painting and drawing. She has taught Studio Art and Art

History for Front Range Community College for 15 years. She teaches for continuing education, Boulder County School District, LLL and is an instructor of Painting and Mixed Media at Hoi Polloi Artists Collective and Gallery in Boulder. Her art experience also includes independent illustration for books and corporations.

Exhibited nationally and internationally, Carilli recently had a solo exhibition at Gallery Spazio 30 on the island of Sicily. Her work is included in many collections, including The Kirkland Museum of Fine Art in Denver. You may view her artwork in Taos, NM, Magpie Taos, at Overland Ranch. Locally Carilli's work is represented by the Next Gallery in Denver and Red Canyon Gallery in Lyons. For more, visit her website.

BCAA Facilities Directory - Featured Venue

The BCAA Facilities Directory is a great resource for finding meeting and event space in Boulder County. It is a comprehensive guide that lists dozens of auditoriums, dance studios, non-traditional spaces and outdoor settings.
