The Lyons Arts & Humanities Commission seeks your partnership to build a new public artwork, The Bell of Renewal, by master Colorado-based artists James G. Moore and Anita Miller. The artwork will memorialize the history of Lyons, the flood, and its flourishing community. The sculpture consists of a bell and stand. The stand depicts a a great horned owl building a nest, representing renewal, and the bell, with design elements from nature in relief, shows the landscape in which Lyons thrives. The bell will be approximately 16” x 20” and will suspend beneath the owl, which will be positioned as flying past a stand of young cottonwood trees that serves as the support for the sculpture. The sculpture, constructed of cast bronze, will stand approximately 8’ H x 4’ W x 3’ d and will be installed along the river, in an appropriate, safe, and enduring location in the Town of Lyons. The Bell of Renewal will be added to the heARTS of Lyons Outdoor Public Art Collection as a Legacy artwork - a permanent piece of public art in the Town’s collection. With a donation of $250 donation or more your name or company name will be added to a bronze plaque posted near the artwork. The deadline is July 1, 2019 to have your name listed on the plaque. Tax deductible donations can be made through this link, in person at Lyons Town Hall, or Western Stars Gallery & Studio. The ARTISTS James Moore has been working professionally in bronze for the last 22 years. After a 15 year career as a middle and high school art teacher, Moore made a leap of faith to make his passion for sculpting into his full time career. His award-winning work is now in public and private collections across the United States, Mexico, and Europe. He spends much of his leisure time enjoying the outdoors and observing the animals and natural environment that are so inspirational to his work.
Moore is assisted by Anita Miller. Miller moved to Lyons in 2016 and felt the ripples of the flood as she heard her neighbors speak of the historic and life-changing event. She has her own history of creating memorial artwork and imagined a symbol of hope and renewal to honor Lyons’ recovery which she and her family now enjoy. The Town of Lyons is offering significant financial support, as well as the members of the Lyons Arts & Humanities Commission, and the artists themselves. But donations are needed to bring this public artwork to fruition. |
