Tim Whiten: Tools of Conveyance surveys 40 years of Whiten’s works on paper and objects related to his mark making practice.

His pictorial language of gesture refers to and reveals physical and spiritual inscriptions people make on the world and on each other. In his body of work Whiten draws attention to different states of consciousness associated with rhythms of everyday work and activity. He is in dialogue with transformations reflected in traditions of ritualized behavior, many of which were inherited through family lines that can be traced back to Africa and Europe by way of the southern United States.

This exhibition and programming are generously supported by Boulder County Arts Alliance, CU Boulder Center for African and African American Studies, CU Boulder Student Arts and Cultural Enrichment fees and CU Art Museum members.

The program is co-organized by the Office for Outreach and Engagement - CU Boulder and Boulder County Arts Alliance (BCAA). / El programa es coorganizado por la Oficina de Difusión y Participación de CU Boulder y Boulder County Arts Alliance (BCAA).

Cohort members will become facilitators of interdisciplinary partnerships that impact critical, place-based environmental and social issues related to climate change. Social justice and navigating issues of power, status, diversity, equity and inclusion within these partnerships and the communities they will serve, are essential aspects of the program. / Los miembros de la cohorte se convertirán en facilitadores de colaboraciones interdisciplinarias que tienen un impacto en los problemas ambientales y sociales críticos, relacionados con el cambio climático. Cohort members are eligible to receive up to $1,000 to fund collaborative projects and will receive guidance and mentorship from scientists, artists, community organizations, and other academics and community members on how to turn research and creative work into action. / Los miembros de la cohorte son elegibles para recibir hasta $ 1,000 para financiar proyectos colaborativos y recibirán orientación y tutoría de científicos, artistas, organizaciones comunitarias y otros académicos y miembros de la comunidad sobre cómo convertir la investigación y el trabajo creativo en acción.
