Artists & Athletes: BCAA & the Bolder Boulder
Memorial Day - Monday, May 25, 2015

If you've ever run or watched the Bolder Boulder 10K, then you know about the bands that line the course, as well as the colorful personalities.  BCAA is getting in on the action this year, by partnering with them to add more artists to the scene.  In addition to Boulder Samba School and bellydancers from Tribe Nawaar, who have performed in years past, the following BCAA members will be participating: Boulder Chorale (singing), Lisa Michot (Visual Artist) (installation of her animal sculptures), Spellbinders (storytelling booth), and Locheart Arts (runners and walkers will throw paint balloons at a giant canvas).  BCAA will have a booth at the Sports Expo as well.  Members are welcome to drop off their promotional materials there, as well as help us "(wo)man" the booth.  This is a new opportunity to show Coloradoans how ART and BUSINESS and SPORT can partner together for the good of the whole community. Hope to see you on the course!

Upcoming Grant Opportunities

BCAA is pleased to announce the continuation of the following Funds in 2015:

Pathways to Jazz Grant - Application Opens May 1

The objectives of this grant are:

  • To document and provide wider exposure for jazz music and the music of contemporary American composers.
  • To assist talented performers in producing a professional quality CD for commercial distribution and self-promotion.
  • To develop audiences for American jazz music through distribution of recorded performances.
  • To support the production of new recordings of jazz music.

The Martha Kate Thomas Fund for Artists - Application Opens June 1

This fund was established in 2013 through a bequest gift to the Community Foundation Serving Boulder County. Grants from this fund will be awarded to artists who live or work in Boulder County and who have unforeseen needs due to special circumstances. These needs may include loss of equipment or supplies, and unplanned expenses due to natural disaster, debilitating illness, accidents and more. Priority is given to applicants that are not eligible to file insurance claims or who may be eligible but coverage is inadequate to cover the loss. Grant awards will not exceed $3000.

BCAA Facilities Directory - Featured Venue

The BCAA Facilities Directory is a great resource for finding meeting and event space in Boulder County.  It is a comprehensive guide that lists dozens of auditoriums, dance studios, non-traditional spaces and outdoor settings.

This Month's Featured Venue

Louisville Center for the Arts, 801 Grant Ave, Louisville, CO 80027
SuzanneJ@LouisvilleCO.gov, 303-335-4581

If you are looking for an intimate setting for your next event or gathering, this charming schoolhouse may be exactly what you desire. Louisville’s “little brick school house,” as it used to be called, has served its community in many ways for over 120 years. Today, this City building is the Louisville Center for the Arts, and it continues to be at the center of cultural and recreational activity.

Members of the Louisville Historical Commission and the Cultural Council were key advocates in urging that the building and its cupola be restored, and it was the Historic Preservation Commission that moved to place it on the Louisville Register of Historic Places. Four resident arts groups (Louisville Cultural Council, Coal Creek Theater of Louisville, the Louisville Art Association and Center Stage Theater of Colorado) and private renters share this performance/exhibit space throughout the year.

The Center is located within the quaint downtown area (just four blocks from Louisville’s historic Main Street) in Memory Square Park. Private rentals are available 120 days in advance. Rental fees are as follows: $35/hr. for Louisville residents ($45/hr. for non-residents). Capacity is 100, dependent upon table/chair set up. Outside caterers are permitted.
