Martha Kate Thomas Fund for Artists
Read the Guidelines First
Online applications for this round are due by Thursday, August 13 at 5 pm. Paper copies will not be accepted.
This fund was established in 2013 through a bequest gift to the Community Foundation Serving Boulder County. Grants from this fund will be awarded to artists who live or work in Boulder County and who have unforeseen needs due to special circumstances. These needs may include loss of equipment or supplies, and unplanned expenses due to natural disaster, debilitating illness, accidents and more. Priority is given to applicants that are not eligible to file insurance claims or who may be eligible but coverage is inadequate to cover the loss. Grant awards will not exceed $3000.

Arts on the River - Call for Entry
Deadline for Submissions is August 1, 2015 Call for Entry Form
Arts on the River is a fundraiser for BCAA and the Lyons Arts and Humanities Commission, held along the North Saint Vrain Creek in Lyons at River Bend. The date for the event is Sunday, August 23, 2015 from 12-7pm.
We are very excited to have Rebecca Folsom performing at this event. Singer/songwriter Folsom's latest CD, Reunion, has been described by Boulder Magazine as “achingly beautiful,” and is a fusion of songs, paintings, and poetry.
The Boulder Art Therapy Collective will offer an interactive booth where participants can engage in a variety of art materials and create art to take home. Items made by Collective Members/Artist will also be for sale. There will be food trucks and a bar, including libations from Spirit Hound Distillers.
We are looking for artists of all mediums who want to staff a booth and sell their work at the event. For all work sold during the event, BCAA and LAHC retain a 30% commission (split evenly between the two nonprofit organizations). Tent, table, and chairs will be provided.
There is no fee for submitting your entry. If selected, the fee for an artist's booth is $20 BCAA members/$40 non-BCAA members. Applications are through the online form on BCAA's website. Acceptances are being made on a rolling basis until filled.

Business of Arts - Tip of the Month
Using Instagram to Sell Your Art
Compared to Twitter which is text-driven and Facebook which is cluttered with a lot of everything, Instagram is visual-first and all about the image. It has become a popular platform for buying and selling art.
Try following the blogs and Instagram accounts for Cory Huff@theabundantartist, Jung Katz@jungkatz, and Ayumi Horie@potsinaction for excellent tips on how to use hashtags, how to photograph and edit your artwork for social media and more.

Who's in the Limelight?
SoYoung Lee Executive/Music Director at Rocky Ridge Music Center
An award-winning pianist and member of the Piano Faculty at Rocky Ridge Music Center, SoYoung Lee is passionate about art entrepreneurship and building community through the arts. She is a member of the newly created Estes Arts Presents Task Force. BCAA is proud to call her one of our own, as she currently serves as a trustee on our Board of Directors.
In 2014, Lee released a CD of classical chamber music titled In This World with flutist Claudia Anderson. Its 15 tracks are a "mesmerizing sound journey taking the listener through worlds of nature and human emotions" (cdbaby.com) and includes new takes on J.S. Bach, Debussy and Shostakovich.
Don't miss the summer concert series at Rocky Ridge! The four concerts in this summer's Music in the Mountains season will be on Sundays: June 7, June 14, June 28 and July 5 at 3 pm at the Rocky Ridge Music Center Concert Hall in Estes Park. Tickets are available online.
