Business of Arts Workshop:  Crafting the Perfect Artist Statement
Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, 1750 13th St, Boulder
Thursday, September 10 from 11:30 am - 1 pm
You have an Artist Statement. You might think it's "good." But chances are it's not communicating what you really want. This is your chance to get honest criticism from three visual arts professionals who have read hundreds of Artist Statements and want to help you make yours "great."

The Artist Statement is an important tool in promoting your work. It can help you connect with gallery owners, museum curators and buyers. Or it can turn them off. We'll share examples of Dos and Don'ts, and then in a friendly, professional manner, you'll get tips for improving your own statement.

The advisors:

  • Mardee Goff, Associate Curator, Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art
  • Kathy Kucsan, Founder, Integrity Arts
  • Crystal Polis, Communications Manager, BCAA and Independent Consultant

City Council Candidate Forum for the Arts

Thursday, October 8 from 5:30 - 8:30 pm
Shine Restaurant, 2027 13th St, Boulder

Please RSVP to Sally Eckert of Boulder Arts Matrix

Boulder Arts Matrix and Boulder County Arts Alliance are hosting a Forum for the Arts to offer the community an opportunity to learn more about the candidates for City Council and their positions on the future of art and culture in Boulder. The City of Boulder has reached a critical point in its ability to maintain its reputation as a cultural destination and home for artists and creative industries. We are eager to hear the canditates' views on the role art and culture plays in the vibrancy of our town.

The evening will begin with an informal gathering, followed by a moderated panel discussion at 6:00, finishing up with a meet-and-greet with the candidates. Food and libations will be for sale. Please help us spread the word to local arts groups. We are reaching out to Plan Boulder, Open Boulder, Better Boulder, Livable Boulder and all neighborhood listings.

We hope you will join us for this historic discussion of the future of art and culture in Boulder.

Arts on the River Wrap-Up
Save the Date for Next Year:
Sunday, August 28, 2016

Thank you to everyone who came out to Arts on the River on Sunday, August 23 to support BCAA and Lyons Arts and Humanities Commission!  We were fortunate to have picture-perfect weather along the St. Vrain Creek as a backdrop to the paintings, prints, jewelry, photographs, handbags and more that were for sale by 30 fabulous artists. We are pleased to say that artist sales were 28% more than last year and totalled almost exactly $10,000.

BCAA would especially like to thank Betsy Burton and Mike Whipp for donating their gorgeous venue, River Bend, for the day and for all their efforts to promote the event!

We hope to see you next year on August 28, 2016!

Donate to the Community Arts Fund
Help us reach our goal of $500 - we're getting there!
or even our stretch goal of $1,000
The Community Arts Fund is a vehicle for businesses, groups and individuals to provide much needed funding for Boulder County arts projects. Art created in the community, by local artists, supported by the community. Do you know a business owner who could use a tax write-off? Help us spread the word! Every amount counts!

You may make a tax-deductible contribution online using a credit card (Mastercard or Visa) by clicking "Contribute to the Fund" in the Community Arts Fund widget on the left side of each page of the BCAA website. Each time a contribution is made to the fund the amount is automatically recorded and tracked. When the fund reaches the target amount, a Request For Proposals (RFP) will be advertised to the BCAA email list and posted to the BCAA website homepage.

The last organization to benefit from the Community Arts Fund was Boulder Opera Company, who used the money to present "Intro to Opera" workshops at no cost to the schools.
