Panel Discussion on Artist Displacement
Wednesday, February 3 from 5:30 - 8 pm

Longmont Museum and Cultural Center, 400 Quail Rd, Longmont

Boulder County Arts Leadership Forum (BCALF) will host a panel discussion titled Artist Displacement:  Where do we go from here?

The panelists will be Deb Gardner, County Commissioner of Boulder County, Lisa Gedgaudas from Denver Arts & Venues and Tamil Maldonado of the Boulder Arts Commission and founder of Barrio E’. The panel will be moderated by Jessica Kooimanand Wes Jessup, Executive Directors of the Firehouse Art Center and Longmont Museum, respectively.

We know that artists are attracted to Boulder County, but conditions are becoming increasingly challenging which, we expect, will eventually cause them to leave. Cost of living and lack of venue, exhibit, rehearsal space make it difficult for artists to produce work. We are interested in looking at other factors, such as lack of diversity and prohibitive city ordinances that may contribute to an inhospitable environment for the arts. As cities across the Front Range create Cultural Plans that are intended to outline strategies to increase sustainability for artists and arts organizations, we’re finding some gaps in the research and incorrect assumptions. We are interested in identifying the issues and imagining solutions so that Boulder County and cities along the Front Range can thrive as arts hubs.

Suggested donation $5. Register here.

Register your event for Boulder Arts Week
March 25 - April 2, 2016

Get Involved!

BCAA is proud to be a lead collaborator again for Boulder Arts Week, now in its 3rd year. Are you an artist or arts organization that would like to participate? All are welcome! It's up to each artist or arts organization to schedule and produce their own event, but we're happy to help however we can.

There are several local businesses interested in hosting artists during Boulder Arts Week. Click HERE for a spreadsheet with information. Please note: this link will be updated regularly, so please check back in!

Already have an event planned?

If you have a venue lined up and an event scheduled, please get it submitted to BAW's calendar! You can do that HERE. Once your event is submitted and approved, we'll get you up on our list of participants. Boulder Arts Week and BCAA's calendars are linked, so your event will automatically show up on both calendars.

Check out the Boulder Arts Week Presenter Tool Kit, which you can download HERE! Our goal is to reach as many citizens in the seven county metro area as possible.

  • Ensure your staff is well versed in what BAW is and how it applies to your organization!
  • Incorporate BAW awareness into your front line (ushers, docents, box office, and volunteer training)!
  • Include BAW messaging where you can--press releases, programs, social media, or just talking to a friend/colleague!

The Schiff Dance Collective

Find your AWESOME. Live YOUR moment.

This is the motto of The Schiff Dance Collective, run by Jenny Schiff, a sought-after choreographer and teacher with roots in Los Angeles, Denver, and Boulder. Since founding TSDC in 2006 she has created seven original evening-length contemporary dance works.

TSDC has been using their groundbreaking choreography and empowered approach to movement to inspire community members throughout Colorado during professional performances, dance classes open to the public, student companies, and outreach. Each season they reach an average of 3800 residents in Boulder and the surrounding areas through their programs.

Just this week, TSDC held an outreach workshop with residents of the AIM and Earl Houses as part of their Creative Recovery Program. These young men and women are living in transitional housing to overcome their addictions and obstacles.  Residents not only watch TSDC performances but participate in their movement improvisation technique "Schiff-ting." This enabling technique focuses on expressing sensation and feeling, and is about controlling one's creative process and thereby taking charge of one's life.

Go to the Class Schedule and/or email for more information.
