SANCTUARY is the new album by Rebecca Folsom, an award-winning singer/songwriter from Boulder, CO. It is a collection of 12 exquisitely crafted tracks that reflect Rebecca’s passion for transformation, her compassion for humanity and her belief in the unifying power of both love and music. Through her breath-taking voice and brilliant storytelling gift, she offers insight, invites empathy, and asks us to unite our passion and our voices for the common goal of co-creating a world that can provide sanctuary for all.
Three years ago, Rebecca Folsom was standing in the Temple of Transformation, a renovated Methodist church that belongs to her friend Suzy Batiz. In that moment, Rebecca was overcome with the feeling of the many voices that had come together in that space over the years, uniting in human struggle and celebration, lifting their voices in sacred harmony, healing and love. She thought to herself: ‘This space needs its own song.’ That’s when the spark for SANCTUARY was born.
In different ways, each of the songs illustrate how our belief in separation is impacting our world with devastating results, and how the fear that comes from those beliefs is clouding our ability to see the humanity in ourselves and in others. Through her writing, Rebecca invites us to take a step back, to bring love to the table and to come together in co-creating a better world through compassion, collaboration and inspired action.
This album is Rebecca’s way of using her gifts as a singer and musician to serve the collective path of transformation. She strongly believes that we need to heal together and learn how to co-create new solutions through empathy, collaboration, compassion and taking responsibility. This album is her way of using her gifts as a singer and musician to serve the collective path of transformation that we are on, and to become a part of the solutions. In the making of this album, she has reached out to thought leaders, activists, social justice organizations and those they serve to guide in the writing process. She has facilitated workshops, done many interviews and co-written several of the tracks. This process is important to Rebecca, to ensure she is fully representing the people who are living at the center of these challenges and allowing their voices to be heard through her writing. She has chosen organizations that have a clear commitment and extended track record of positive impact within the communities they serve.
Here is a short list of organizations:
Homelessness: Boulder Homeless Shelter
Prisons: Colorado Corrections and ARI (Authentic Relating International)
Women’s Empowerment: Suzy Batiz, CEO Poo-Pourri & Supernatural, Forbes List of America’s Richest Self-Made Women
New Thought: NYT Bestselling Author Katie Hendricks (Foundation of Conscious Living)
Spiritual Life: Zen Master Roshi Reta Lawler
Refugees: IRC International Rescue Committee (Serving Youth Asylum Seekers)
Nature conservation: National Marine Sanctuary Foundation
Rebecca’s own life experiences overlap with many of the issues covered in the songs. She has written a number of songs that touch directly on her personal journey with poverty, homelessness, gender inequality and addiction. Discovering her true voice and in finding the courage to reach for the stars with this album, she brings the full breadth of her talent to shine a light for all.
The songs themselves are a collection of deeply moving compositions ranging from quiet ballads to uplifting anthems. Together they create a pathway for the listener to come to terms with the ways things are broken, to face into their fear and to transform fear into compassion and a deep sense of hope and motivation.
SANCTUARY’s gift and it’s mission is to use the power of music to unite audiences in the recognition of their grief, their fear, their numbness and to guide them in transforming these into love and empowerment.
There is an extraordinary team on this project. Producer, Tom Wassinger, has won multiple awards, including three Grammys for his work with Mary Youngblood and others. Our creative partners include: Gold and Platinum hit songwriter Sally Barris, Spirit of Folk winner Dana Cooper and Grammy nominated artist Nick Forster. The launch of the album is set for Spring 2020. Planning for the national tour is presently in progress.

The National Marketing Plan covers press, social media, radio and film. Through promotional, logistical, booking and publishing support we will bring Sanctuary's message to the global stage, with the focus and placement the songs deserve and will allow them to best serve their purpose of healing and awakening.
This includes the campaign for a Grammy, which would be a huge celebration of the message and significant advantage in terms of visibility and engagement.
