David Alcantar is an American artist currently residing and working in San Antonio, Texas.  Born in the border town of Laredo, Texas, David moved to San Antonio at age 5.   Alcantar’s formal art instruction began at San Antonio College, which emphasized self-discipline and conceptualization. Balancing Fragile Thingssimplifies the complexity of negotiating, contextualizing through illustration the abstract notions of its tendencies to make them easier to follow and understand, for the purpose of empowering the viewer. The works address the narrative impact resulting from everyday choices that are made, the contexts in which negotiations take place and the power structures involved, and the reality of multiple interests influencing the decisions or negotiations at hand.
