Multi-award-winning saxophonist, composer, producer, photographer and cinematographer Stratøs brings his electronic chamber jazz experiment to the University of Colorado Boulder for his inaugural recital as the College of Music's new assistant teaching professor of composition.

Originally from Michigan, the Los Angeles-based artist is a three-time consecutive winner of the ASCAP Foundation's Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award (2019-21) as well as a recipient of the Johnny Mandel Prize. In 2020, he won the National Sawdust New Works Commission which granted him a collaboration with the world-renowned JACK Quartet. His affinity for analog textures is felt not only in his music, but his photography. By combining the two, he’s created an entire ecosystem brimming with life.

Stratøs' self-produced debut album, "Planets," combined death metal, jazz and cinematic tones while "Hohenheim Suites" drew inspiration from the legendary manga series "Fullmetal Alchemist" (which features Stratøs' "Fullmetal Alchemist" collaboration with the JACK Quartet). His latest project, "Challenger Deep," follows a descent into the Mariana Trench as a metaphor for environmental and historical reckoning.

The music presented will be selected from these three projects and more.

Presented for free in-person and livestreamed by the CU Boulder College of Music!
