Montana artist Leslie Van Stavern Millar is exhibiting gouache paintings in the Gallery at Sweet Ruckus from April 18 - 26th. New work from the Hand of Fatima and Burnt Offering Series explores themes of creativity, healing, narrative work and the power of symbols. Leslie lived in Iran as a child and has developed a painting style inspired by her early exposure to Persian miniature paintings. As a contibuting member of the Montana arts community since the 1970's Leslie owns and operates the Brunswick Artists' Studios in downtown Missoula. She is an advocate of Freedom of Expression and speaks publicly on behalf of the critical role of the arts in a democracy.
Leslie will be present for two receptions - Opening day, Friday, April 18th from 4 - 6 PM and Saturday, April 19th, from 1 - 3 PM. On Friday the 18th at 5 PM she will give a short talk about her experience of painting with gouache and the two series on display.
