The Rocky Ridge Music Center (RRMC) continues its classical chamber music concert series at the beautiful Rocky Ridge Music Center Concert Hall this Sunday, July 23rd at 3:00pm. This performance will feature the exceptional and talented faculty of RRMC’s Junior Music Program. The program opens with solo pianist Nathan Hess performing Chopin’s Ballade No. 3. These ballades of Chopin and are some of the most beautiful and challenging works in the piano repertoire. International soloist Cobus du Toit will perform Castérède’s buoyant Sonate en Forme de Suite, and prize winner and SUNY Fredonia faculty member James Welch will perform movements from Brahms’ well-known and technically demanding Piano Sonata No. 1, a work written in 1853. Also on the program is the acclaimed Southwest String Quartet performing Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No. 2, music penned when he was only 18 years old and on the cusp of stardom. Active recitalist and esteemed educator Grant Larson joined by Nathan Hess will close the program with Muczynski’s Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano. This exciting piece written in 1970 has become a popular standard of the classical saxophone repertoire. You will not want to miss this diverse program, displaying a variety of musical styles and various instruments, amidst the crisp mountain air and surrounded by the grandeur of Longs Peak and Twin Sisters.
