Special Martin Luther King Jr. Day Poetic Dialogue:

Norma Johnson and Dexter Payne present Poems on Race

Motus Theater is proud to host Boulder performance poet/social justice activist Norma Johnson. She will perform her poems about race and racism to inspire group conversation and reflection. Award-winning saxophonist Dexter Payne will interweave musical responses and accompaniment. (The event is intended for adults and children 10 years of age or older that are accompanied by an engaged parent).

Norma Johnson is a healer, poet and performer who brings inspired awareness to insights on race and human rights. Norma’s poems are used by educators across the country to arouse consciousness about how race, privilege and class affect our daily lives.

Clarinetist Dexter Payne has performed from Tijuana to Paris, from Montreal to Buenos Aires. Highly ranked in Downbeat Magazine Readers Poll  and 2011 International Blues Challenge winner, Payne is equally at home playing Brazilian choro jazz as he is playing jazz and blues.
