Introduction

This request for qualifications is for two opportunities for new murals along the Bear Creek Path. Martin Acres is a creative, open and diverse community in South Boulder, Colorado. Arts Martin Acres is a grassroots organization committed to building community through a neighborhood arts program that enhances our physical spaces and weaves together the many layers of cultural identity of Martin Acres. This project is funded by the City of Boulder’s Neighborhood Enhancement grant program.

About the Sites

Both sites are located in south Boulder's Martin Acres neighborhood, along Bear Creek path, a busy transportation artery for bikes and pedestrians that runs through the heart of the Martin Acres neighborhood.

The Bear Creek path underpass at Moorhead measures 97 feet long and 7 feet high and has a fairly smooth concrete surface.

The Bear Creek path wall at Martin Drive is adjacent to Creekside elementary school and measures 70 feet long and 7 feet high with a fairly smooth concrete surface.

 Parameters & Goals

Martin Acres is a diverse neighborhood that includes students, seniors, young professionals, families and artists. These mural projects are directly informed by neighborhood input and surveys. The Martin Acres residents have communicated that a strong sense of community, as well as our surrounding natural environment are key neighborhood identity assets.  We are seeking original, site-specific designs for both locations that refer to Martin Acres diverse community and natural surrounding beauty.

 Materials & Media

Two dimensional work, light installation and similar will be considered for this project. 3D or sculptural work is not appropriate for these sites.

 Applying

We are seeking TWO artists, one for each location. Artists should submit one entry for consideration of both mural projects. If for any reason, Artists are ONLY interested in one particular site, please include that in the artist statement of interest. Four finalists will be selected to design site-specific mural mock ups (stipend provided).

Artist or team of Artists shall submit to artsmartinacres@gmail.com with the subject “NAME OF ARTIST - Bear Creek Path Mural Projects”

 ·      5-8 images of previously completed mural work

·      0-2 videos

·      Resume/CV

·      Statement of Interest including your relevant experience

 Deadline is August 15th 2017

Upon review, the committee will select 4 finalists to create a concept and design mock up ($250 design fee awarded to each).  Two final artists will then be selected from those finalists to complete the two projects.

Eligibility

Although artists are not required to live locally, an understanding of what makes Boulder, and specifically South Boulder unique will be given priority.

This project is open to artists regardless of race, creed, color, gender, gender variance, national origin, age, religion, marital status, political affiliation, mental or physical handicap.
