Celebration! A History of the Visual Arts in Boulder (HOVAB), founded in 2016, launched a unique tribute to the area's extraordinary art history from before European settlement to the present, with the work of more than 350 artists exhibited in 18 county-wide venues. HOVAB's mission is to highlight Boulder's finest contemporary artists. By mixing them with regional, national, and international artists of diverse backgrounds, races, and ethnicities, we hope to raise the bar on all our behalves and showcase their amazing talents in broader contexts. In 2018, IMAGINARY MAPS: EXPEDITIONS TO UNCOVER APOCRYPHAL, UNSUBSTANTIATED & FORBIDDEN PLACES, featuring 41 artists, became the first of anticipated annual HOVAB projects designed to continue our advocacy. MURMURATIONS: WINGED BEINGS SACRED & PROFANE was HOVAB's 2019 offering to the community and featured 39 renowned contemporary artists. Catalogues are produced for each project to document the wonderful work of Boulder's best in a variety of disciplines. In 2021, HOVAB published OnWORDS! Boulder's Book Arts Legacy, edited by Jennifer Heath and Tree Bernstein to honor the long, vibrant history of independent and small press publishing in the city.
