Lakewood Cultural Center presents filmmaker Dale Johnson's high-definition tour of China's past and its sparkling, modern future.
“China Rising” takes a breathtaking journey through the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and the Great Wall. The film tours the Yarlung Tsangpo Canyon in western China, which is much deeper and longer than the Grand Canyon, then takes the audience on a drive through the agricultural region of Heilongjiang Province, before hopping aboard the High Speed Bullet train to Shanghai. Johnson's stunning film shows that China is a country worth exploring, full of fascinating people with vibrancy, hunger and unparalleled ambitions.
Johnson has worked on television specials for ABC and CBS before directing and filming the television series “The Lone Star Sportsman.” Additionally, he spent five years at NASA during the Skylab era, working on many films. His company, Trailwood Films, has won many prizes for producing commercials and documentaries, including two of the prestigious CINE Golden Eagle awards. He also won a Gold Medal at the New York International Film Festival for film production for the U.S. Forest Service.
Johnson is an inductee into the Travelogue Hall of Fame and was awarded Best of Show at the 2008 Travel Film Convention. Because of his keen interest in wildlife and his photographic ability, he has been profiled in National Wildlife magazine and recently edited the National Geographic Special “Wolf Pack” about the wolves of Yellowstone.
