Directed by Brandon Palmer

This compelling and daring play, depicting a hostage situation from four points of view comes to The Bakery with performances through April 11. There will be no performance on April 5 in observance of Easter Sunday.

In Two Rooms, Lee Blessing takes us on a harrowing journey through the multi-faceted perspectives and psychologies of a long-term, terrorist's hostage situation. The two rooms of the title are a windowless cubicle in Beirut where a group of Arab terrorists hold Michael Wells, an American hostage, and a room in his home back in the U.S., which his wife Lainie has stripped bare of all furniture and decor in order to feel more connected to Michael's situation. Through powerful, reflective monologues from the hostage in solitary confinement, imagined conversations between he and Lainie, and carefully navigated paths through Walker's emotional prodding and Ellen's cold, logical reasoning, the question asked becomes not "What is the right choice?" but rather "Is there a right choice?"
