What interests me most is neither still life nor landscape: it is the human figure. -Henri Matisse

DENVER, CO. On a large scale and through a wide lens, the artists and several guest artists bring their emotional and painterly response to the human figure to Gallery 1261. Opening Friday, March 27, this exhibition highlights bold form and color, as well as designs in response to the human form. From abstract to romantic to obscure, each painter contributes a unique voice and vision. This exhibition features an array of contemporary figuration from gallery artists, such as Vincent Xeus and Mia Bergeron, as well as substantial contributions by guests such as Jeremy Mann, Henrik Uldalen, and Alyssa Monks.

For this show, Jeremy Mann has provided “Fracture,” a stunning tonal work in blue. This piece represents the artist’s first time showing at Gallery 1261, and we are excited to finally have his gorgeous figural work in the gallery. The piece is one from his signature series of works involving contemplative figures and reflections.

Vincent Xeus, fresh from his hugely successful two-man exhibition with Quang Ho at Gallery 1261 this past December, presents a companion piece to one of that show’s most coveted works, “Harper in Snow.” While Xeus is known for his astounding command of traditional painting techniques, his effort for this show is a prime example of how he “evokes gestural qualities, impasto style and raw emotions, culminating an aesthetic all of his own and serving as an avenue of internal and individual reflection.”
