Collecting and preserving the varied examples of the quilter’s art is an important part of the mission of the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum. The museum celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2015, and this exhibit highlights the special, but seldom seen, areas of collecting. Visitors will see important work by pioneers of the art quilt movement, the first artists who took quilts off the bed and put them on the wall. They will also be surprised by kit quilts, which introduced quilting as an antidote to the “hurry up” life of the 1920s and 1930s and promised success. Storytelling quilts will touch visitors’ hearts, and they will be wowed by eye-popping graphic patterns. Some newly acquired antiques will be shown for the first time.

What Inspires You?

Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum invited museum members and friends to celebrate the museum’s 25th anniversary by making a 25-inch square quilt. The theme of the challenge, “What Inspires You?” inspired more than 35 varied entries, from museum-related subjects to highly personal stories. This exhibit celebrates the spark of inspiration and showcases the many talents of the RMQM quilting community.
