Carolyn König has been known to say that sleep is highly overrated. Not only is Carolyn, from Wodonga, Australia, an author, a pattern designer, and a quilt shop owner, but she also makes meticulous reproductions of elaborate eighteenth and nineteenth-century British quilts. Unlike other quilters who prefer to simplify, Carolyn is inspired and challenged by the complexity of the antique pieces. She will cheerfully spend hours drafting the complicated geometric patterns the old fashioned way—with a compass, a protractor, a ruler, and a pencil. She then stitches her own reproduction quilt tops entirely by hand. Quilters and non-quilters alike will be amazed by the detail of the traditional designs and the sheer magnitude of the work involved. This is the first major exhibition of Carolyn’s quilts in the Rocky Mountain region. It is sponsored in part by QUILTmania.
