Paid Museum Internship - YMCA of the Rockies

Position Summary:

The Museum Intern assists the Museums Director in all facets of operation of the Lula W. Dorsey Museum. The Museum Intern is responsible for planning and implementing daily Day Camp activities at the Museum and for planning and implementing a one week history camp each summer.  Must have experience working with children ages Pre-K through grade 8. 

 

 

 

Essential Functions / Requirements:

  1. Must be at least 18 years old.
  2. Must be working towards a degree in history/museum related field, graduate level preferred.
  3. Must enjoy working with people of all ages, especially school aged youth.
  4. With direction from Museums Director plan, develop and implement programs for Day Camp participants in grades K-8.
  5. Must be able to work as a member of a team and independently.
  6. Independently open and close the museum buildings as directed by Museums Director.
  7. Greet museum guests, introduce them to the museum and answer questions.
  8. Responsible for keeping the museum buildings and grounds clean and orderly, maintaining a clean working environment for programs.
  9. Must be physically able to climb stairs multiple times daily, lift up to 25 pounds from floor level, and lead up to 2 hour walks around the YMCA grounds.
  10. Must possess the ability to quickly retain learned historical facts.
  11. Must be fluent in speaking English and possess effective communication skills.
  12. Must possess basic office skills and be organized.
  13. Must possess a valid, USA state issued driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and comply with YMCA driving rules to be approved to operate YMCA vehicles.
  14. Support the Association safety program. Promote safe work practices and a safe environment for guests, members and staff.
  15. Uphold the YMCA of the Rockies Mission, policies and programs.
  16. Uphold and reflect the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Faith in all functions.
  17. Promote a cooperative, positive and problem-solving atmosphere at all times.
  18. Ability to work cooperatively with others in a diverse environment.
  19. Must meet acceptable criminal background check standards.
  20. Possess excellent customer service skills; for example, friendly, personable, helpful, patient, and professional.

NOTES:

Additional Salary Information: Intern must live at the YMCA of the Rockies. Compensation includes: Stipend: $180/ week Room (housing includes internet access/heat/water--no bills!—no lease!--in a dormitory building) Board (3 tasty buffet style meals, 7 days per week) Complimentary nights at both Estes Park Center and Snow Mountain Ranch (with some date restrictions based on season/occupancy) YMCA of the Rockies family membership while you’re employed (please note that our facilities include a pool, gymnasium, climbing wall, great activities/classes, and trails, but not a weight lifting room) Other employee perks including access to free skiing/snowboarding/mountain biking/golf (depending on season and resort) at Winter Park Resort and other resorts.

The Dorsey Museum supports the Mission of the YMCA of the Rockies by engaging visitors in our history through exhibits, programs and publications. The Lula W. Dorsey Museum includes four historic buildings, the main lodge and three cabins.
