Description

Celebration! A History of the Visual Arts in Boulder (HOVAB).

HOVAB is revisiting and celebrating the city's lively visual art past, beginning in the late 19th century and continuing all the way to the present. Exhibitions of selected artwork will take place in 16 galleries city-wide and in Longmont (where many former Boulder artists now reside), from September 29 through December 31, 2016.

We are preparing for a massive project that will include -- in addition to gallery exhibits, film screenings and programs we plan a self-guided walking/biking tour that will take visitors all over the city to view sculptural, landscape and architectural. Other sites in Boulder County will also be included on a map. A full-color catalogue is being produced to document the exhibition and lay a foundation for the future by providing access to and immortalizing Boulder's visual arts legacy.

We need volunteers for all kinds of tasks from writing to research to exhibition installation to helping with programming and much more.  Computer skills are important, as is a love of the visual arts and Boulder history.

HOVAB's curatorial/steering committee comprises Sally Elliott, Kevin Kelley (treasurer), Kathy Mackin, Joan Markowitz and Jennifer Heath (chair). Karen Ripley Dugan, a pillar in the Boulder arts community, was an original member of the committee, until her passing in July 2015. HOVAB is dedicated to her memory.
