- Lafayette Cultural Arts Commission and ARTS!Lafayette are proud to present the 2016 Lafayette Youth Poetry Prize. The Lafayette Youth Poetry Prize (LYPP) aims to cultivate and inspire poetry while celebrating Lafayette’s commitment to community arts. $400 will be given out in prize money.
Youth poetry will be presented at a reading from 2:00 – 3:30 pm, at the Mary Miller Theater; 300 E. Simpson Street; Lafayette, on Saturday, April 30. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes will be awarded at elementary and middle school levels in English and Spanish Language categories. All finalists will be invited to read at the event, where winners will be announced. The event is open to the public.
The Lafayette Youth Poetry Prize was open to youth (K – 8th grade) living in or attending school in Lafayette. The youth entries will be divided into three age categories, with a Spanish Language and English division at each age level. Cash prizes will be awarded at each level. All styles, themes and lengths are welcome. High school students and adults are welcome to enter the Michael Adams Poetry Prize, www.cityoflafayette.com/MAPP
All entries must be received by April 11; at noon; and adult entries require $5.00 entry fee per poem. Entry forms and additional info may be found at www.cityoflafayette.com/LYPP
The contest was open to all youth living in or attending school in Lafayette. The 2016 judges include Ran Huntsberry, Susan Simonds, and Martin Balgach.
