Open Studios will once again be presenting the Reuman Award ($4,000 award) at the 2016 Open Studios Tour Preview on September 30. This award is given in memory of Scott Campbell Reuman, who was a highly creative and accomplished local artist. An engineer by training and an artist by nature, Scott constantly pushed the limits of his art; he explored combining LED lighting into flowing cut stone work, developed a new metal lamination technique used in sculpture, and even created a whole new sub-genre of furniture making using sinuous wood cuts enhanced with colored resin. The results were outstanding and remarkably innovative.
The Reuman Award will be presented to a Boulder County/Denver Metro area visual artist whose work, like Scott's, further advances new possibilities in art.
The award will be based on some but not necessarily all of the following:
-
innovations in technique
-
new uses of materials
-
incorporation of technology into art
