Tactile art by Ann Cunningham featured at NCAR:

Ann Cunningham started stone carving when she was 15 years old, but it wasn’t until ten years later that she found slate. She chose slate as the foundation for most of her work because its fine structure holds delicate detail which gives her a broad pallet for visual and tactile expression. Slate can be finished so smoothly it is sometimes described as “soft” and lends itself to tactile experience without risk of damage. The pieces she creates in slate should be experienced through both sight and touch; one must touch it to truly see it. Cunningham’s work will be on exhibit in UCAR Gallery ll (east end) of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) October 2016 through November 2016.

Nathan Abels and Arapahoe Community College featured at NCAR:

Nathan Abels is an artist living and working in Evergreen, Colorado. His works typically take the form of paintings and drawings with an emphasis on landscape, atmosphere, and reduction. Nathan is represented by Rule Gallery in Denver, Colorado, and Marfa, TX.

For this exhibit, students from Arapahoe Community College created ink drawings based on short poems which were then laser cut and accompanied by ceramic models of the same subject. The whole piece involved ceramics students, drawing students and the help of many others at the college. This project is part of our ongoing partnership with our neighbors the Colorado Center for the Blind in Littleton and artist Ann Cunningham. Mixed media artwork presented by Nathan Abels and Arapahoe Community College students will be on display in the UCAR Community Art Gallery l & ll of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) October 2016 – November 2016.
