Patrick Barlow is an English actor, comedian and playwright. His comedic alter ego, Desmond Olivier Dingle, is the founder, Artistic Director and Chief Executive of the two-man National Theatre of Brent, which has performed on stage, on television and on radio. His adaption of, “A Christmas Carol”, conveys the story in such a big, stunning way it is impressive. Still, it never puts visuals or “special effects” over the story, which comes across in an exceptionally moving way, while keeping it light, often humorous, and festive. There are the small touches that set this adaptation apart from Dickens’ original: the occasional anachronistic phrasing, fourth wall disintegration, and a dash of puppetry.
