From Tallis to Tavener, a vast body of choral works by British composers from the Renaissance to today has become the mainstay of the world's choral repertoire.
The evening's program includes the Colorado premieres of Alexander Campkin's Unleash the Beauty of Your Eyes and Cecilia McDowall's Magnificat with solos by soprano Ana Spadoni and mezzo-soprano Jenna Clark. Also presented are Thomas Tallis' If Ye Love Me, John Tavener's Song for Athene, Ralph Vaughan Williams Five Mystical Songs with baritone Steven T. Taylor as soloist and Loch Lomand (arr. Jonathan Quick). The Playground Ensemble accompanies and Artistic Director Catherine Sailer conducts.
The Evans Choir is a chamber choir made up of professional singers and conductors in the Denver area committed to performing and promoting choral music at the highest level.
Catherine Sailer is Director of Choral Studies at the University of Denver Lamont School of Music, where she conducts the Lamont Chorale, Lamont Women’s Chorus, and the independent chamber choir, The Evans Choir. She is also the Associate Conductor of the Colorado Ballet Orchestra. Ms. Sailer is president of Colorado ACDA, and was selected as an ICEP exchange fellow to China. She was named the winner of the Robert Shaw Fellowship in 2005, chosen by Chorus America and supported by Warner Brothers and the National Endowment for the Arts. Her other awards include first place at the American Choral Director’s Association Conducting Competition. She has conducted and collaborated as conductor or chorus master with singers and conductors worldwide.
