Description

The Lafayette Cultural Arts Commission (LCAC) is pleased to announce the opening of the annual Arts in the Community-Grant cycle.  The grants are available to local individuals and organizations for the 13th year in a row.  The LCAC awards money, usually not exceeding $1000 per grant, to fund projects which will directly benefit the city and residents of Lafayette.  Approximately $15,000 will be awarded.  The grant application is available from the City of Lafayette website; www.cityoflafayette.com/grants. Grant applications deadline is September 29, 2017, with funds distributed in January 2018. All projects receiving grant money need to be completed by December 20, 2017.

In the past Arts in the Community Grants have funded Alley Art Amazin' which provides supplies to paint murals in the alleys of Old Town; Loteria: the SALSA monologues presented by Motus Theater; the Kaleidoscope Concert Series at Colorado Music Festival and Center for Musical Arts; and many other programs that assist local artists to bring all forms of arts to a wide and diverse audience. Other grants have provided programs such as the popular Festival Flicks movies, Music Goes Public, and support to organizations such as Peanut Butter Players.

The Lafayette Cultural Arts Commission looks for opportunities to partner with and/or provide support to other community organizations to expand programming for the community.  This program has supported partnerships with Motus Theater, Barrio E, The Art Underground: Art Hub and Imagine.

According to Susan Booker, Cultural Resources Coordinator with the City of Lafayette, more than 85 grants have been awarded for community art and cultural projects over the past 10 years.  “This is a great opportunity for local artists and organizations to continue to build Lafayette’s creative, diverse and eclectic community.  LCAC is in full support of this community identity and continues to nurture cultural endeavors in Lafayette. By working with other groups the LCAC is able to provide much more programming to the community than they could do on their own.”

A total of more than $40,000  has been given out, helping to provide more than $400,000 worth of programming to the community. The Cultural Resources  Division annually administers Arts in Community Grants and Arts in Education Grants, which provide funds for arts and cultural projects in local schools.  Find out more about these comprehensive programs at www.cityoflafayette.com/grants
