2018: Portraits of Martin Acres Community Mural

Call For Volunteer Artists now open through March 1, 2018!

The chalkboard mural has been a fun and effective community building art project and we are grateful for all of the contributions that Friends of Martin Acres and our residents have made over the last 3 years. Maintaining the chalkboard mural has become a challenge and the freeform chalk drawings also have a tendency to extend beyond the intended art areas. Because of this, we have proposed phase II evolution of the chalkboard mural.

In phase II, we invite the community to submit their interpretations of "portrait" designs to be painted in one of the existing chalkboard frames. 22 Artists will be selected to paint their designs this spring. Subject matter should focus on people, places and things in Martin Acres that inspire you. A person you admire, your friend, neighbor, pet, wildlife, landscape, anything that inspires you is encouraged!  The selected artists will be provided with paint and materials by Arts Martin Acres and also may provide their own paint. The finished mural will be protected with anti-graffiti coating by Arts Martin Acres.

The site of the existing chalkboard mural at Martin Drive underpass on Bear Creek Path.

• Design sketch in any format along with a description of what the subject is and why it’s important to you.
• Contact information and any additional information you would like us to have, including other work samples, inspiration photos, websites, reference material etc.
• If you have a particular frame you would like to paint, please include that in your submission using the below reference photo. *see website

• Applicants must live in Boulder
• All ages welcome to apply
• One email submission per artist please. You may include multiple designs in your submission if desired.
