JOB DESCRIPTION

The Ceramics Studio Facilitator will be responsible for firing the kiln twice weekly, including loading and unloading. They will be in charge of general upkeep of the studio and will monitor clay supplies.

The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for the arts and community building as well as knowledge of ceramics studio maintenance. Candidates should be organized, able to multitask, delegate, meet deadlines and problem solve.

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Facilitation of classroom spaces

    • Coordinate with the Executive Director any needs to to ensure satisfactory and safe studio environment

    • General cleaning and upkeep, not to include cleaning up after members, as members are responsible for cleaning up after studio usage.
  1. Manage equipment and materials in an effective and sustainable manner

    • Communicate and coordinate equipment and materials needs with the Executive Director.

    • Communicate maintenance needs and requests made by instructors, monitors and/or students to the Executive Director.

    • Alert Executive Director on needs regarding ordering of all supplies and materials that are required for the studio.

  2. Be an engaged team member to promote personal growth and development of best practices in the department
    • Respond to emails and approval requests in a timely manner.
    • Keep regular and consistent weekly hours and make the schedule available to all studio-users and administration.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

    • Occasionally required to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
    • Must be able to climb one flight of stairs regularly throughout the day.
    • Must pass a criminal background check prior to employment.

Desirable Qualities:

    • Established creative skill set in ceramics or other relevant experience. Certified knowledge of kiln safety is an significant asset.
    • Mature attitude; ability to work autonomously in a collaborative environment.
    • A strong team player with a mature attitude and ability to work autonomously in a collaborative environment.

COMPENSATION

This is a contract position for a weekly rate of $50. 

TYPICAL SCHEDULE:

Firing 2x a week (incuding load and unload), general upkeep- 2-3 hours a week

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Requires one (1) year of experience in a ceramics studio 
  • Interest in the arts
  • Valid driver’s license and access to vehicle preferred.

Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.
