Discover the fascinating world of functional ceramic art in this hands-on workshop! You’ll learn to create a unique hinged box in the shape of a bug, where the wing open and close like a lid.
This workshop will guide you through the process of sculpting a bug-inspired design, making and attaching hinges, and ensuring your piece is both functional and decorative. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced clay artist, this class offers the perfect opportunity to explore new techniques and unleash your creativity.

  •   What You’ll Learn:
    • How to sculpt a bug form with clay.
    • The fundamentals of creating hinges for movable wings.
    • Tips and tricks for designing functional ceramic pieces.

  • What Students Need to Bring:
    • Needle Nose, Round Nose and Wire Cutters to make the hinges.
  • Materials included:
    • clay, underglazes, hi fire wire and bisque firing.

After your piece has been fired, you’ll take home a one-of-a-kind bug box that opens to reveal a hidden compartment—perfect for storing small treasures or displaying as a decorative keepsake.

Note: The pieces will need to be fired once they are completely dry, which may take up to 1 weeks. Once ready,
you’ll receive an email to pick up your finished birdhouse at Tumbleweed or the artist
