Screenwriting is a strange beast. But writing a feature-length or short script is not as tough as one might think. Delve into this approach to storytelling and the unique challenges to breaking in. Explore story structure expectations and format, putting that new knowledge to work with exercises. Touch on new venues like streaming and vertical dramas, how this collaborative industry works, the politics of adaptations, budget considerations and successful examples. This interactive workshop features a PowerPoint presentation with samples, participant interaction, and guided practice. Limited to 8 participants, open to all experience levels.
About the Instructor:
Karen Albright Lin (she/her) is a produced screenwriter, script doctor, and award-winning novelist. She’s written a dozen short and feature prizewinning screenplays (solo and collaborative). She teaches for cruise lines, online communities like Scribophile and Romance Writers of America, and at a variety of conferences in Colorado. Her screenplays and novels are often inspired by her experience marrying into a Taiwanese family, including Mu Shu Mac & Cheese and American Moon: A Chinese Immigrant Story. She’s been a screenwriting columnist and featured in dozens of other venues from glossies to Fresh Starts anthology. In her “spare time” she drags her husband and two sons around the world as she researches recipes for a literary cookbook. She’s a pitch and writing coach, and is honored to have been awarded the Pen Award (PAA membership) and the Golden Nugget Award. www.karenalbrightlin.com
