Boulder Taiko HIBIKI conducts the first workshop / demo in spring 2012. The challenge and the beauty of Taiko stems from the combination of percussion, dance and martial art. As in martial art study, Boulder Taiko’s teaching method and essence is based upon the four basic elements, Mind, Skill, Body, and Manner.
KOKORO: SPIRIT - Discipline of mind, self-control and playing form heart.
WAZA: SKILL - Musicianship, rhythm, and technique.
KARADA: BODY - Discipline of physical strength, power and endurance.
REI: ETIQUETTE - Respect, communication manner, unity and harmony.
This workshop/demo is designed for beginner and advanced beginner/intermediate level. All students learn the basic grip, stance and movement prior to practicing fundamental drills designed to learn basic drumming techniques. The workshop starts with a routine of full body stretches and the use of voice is practiced throughout class. One method unique teaching style is that “Kuchi-Shoka”, students sing the rhythms without the music score so that the entire body, not just the brain, learns the rhythm.
Experience Sound Healing with Acutonics
Carol Conigliaro, Licensed Acupuncturist, will be offering sample sound healing sessions using Acutonics. Acutonics is a sound healing system using tuning forks directly on acupuncture points to harmonize energy flow and vitalize energy in the body.
Sessions will take place after the Taiko Drumming workshop. It's free of charge. Donation accepted.

Where: West Gate Kung Fu School, 3005 Sterling Circle Suite 150 Boulder, CO 80301 (From Foothill Pkwy and Valmont Rd., go East, pass Airport Rd, and go left on Sterling Circle. Look for Elite Dance Academy on your left hand side. It's by the Valmont Bike Park and Dog park. If you hit 55th St., you went too far.)
Cost: $18 for early bird registered and paid (or mail stamp dated by 3/24/2012. It will cost $28 after the date. (20% of total profit will be donated to Japan Red Cross for Tsunami Relief, and American Red Cross for Tornado Relief.)

-Please wear proper clothes as if doing exercise at a Gym, or any comfortable clothes, but no jeans/perfume.
