Description
This class is for those of us who love collecting all those odd bits and pieces that have a history, not because we have a use for them but because they’re way too cool to pass up. We know you’re out there! Artist Alix Christian has collected objects like these for years, and has started using them to great effect in her encaustic work. We were surprised to discover how easy it is to add almost anything to a canvas with the hot wax. No shape is too unusual, no material is off limits. (The obvious exception is something that might melt in the hot wax – but even that might be cool!) Come experiment in class, using layers of colored wax to adhere your own odd bits and pieces to wooden encaustic panels. Or choose from Alix’s stash. You’ll leave class with one or more pieces of art. The sides are nicely finished off, so your art is ready to hang. The class is for both new and experienced students. Alix will cover basic information at the beginning, such as how to brush on the hot medium and use the torch for fusing. Experienced students can move right ahead at their own pace while Alix helps newer students get started. The class is held at the instructor’s studio in North Boulder.
