The Boulder Alley Gallery is a Downtown Boulder Foundation (DBF) initiative in an ongoing commitment to enhance the downtown district landscape for locals and visitors alike. The project will repurpose alley and back-of-building doors into an outdoor artist gallery featuring the works of local talent. More than 200 doors within the downtown district could qualify for this project.
Based on a similar initiative in downtown Louisville, Kentucky, the Boulder Alley Gallery will kick off this summer with the installation of a model door at Lawry Lane and Broadway (back door of the Office Partners on Pearl building at 1942 Broadway).
The Downtown Boulder Foundation is opening a Call to Artists, inviting Boulder County based artists to submit images for consideration. Local artists are encouraged to submit images of existing work rather than creating something specifically for the project. All submitted work will be reviewed by a jury selected by DBF. Work will be evaluated for artistic excellence and project compatibility. Selected art will be printed on vinyl and attached to doors. Artists will retain the rights to the work and will be credited via a small sign at/near the door and on the Alley Gallery website (BoulderAlleyGallery.org). Artists will also receive a small stipend.
Property owners throughout the downtown district will be invited to participate in the project as sponsors by covering the cost of their specific door installation and contributing to the Alley Gallery Fund – to facilitate maintenance and furthering of the project.
