Theater Company of Lafayette Presents the Beguiling Comedy
“Dead Man’s Cell Phone” by Sarah Ruhl
August 15 - September 6
An incessantly ringing cell phone in a quite café. A stranger at the next table who has had enough. And a dead man – with a lot of loose ends.
Gordon is dead, but his cell phone lives on. After Jean answers his ringing phone she finds herself constructing fictions—or rather, confabulations—to comfort the grieving. Ensnarled in Gordon’s past, her adventures fill her lonely life to the brim, including a martini binge with his wife, a mysterious rendezvous with his mistress, and a disconcerting dinner with his family—not to mention an assignation in the afterlife.
This imaginative and dark-edged comedy, directed by Theater Company of Lafayette veteran Vonalda Utterback, is the captivating odyssey of a woman forced to confront her assumptions about morality, redemption and the need to connect in a technology obsessed world.
