Two new exhibitions featured at NCAR: Western Paintings by Gary Molzan and Aluminum Sculptures by Mark Zirinsky
Gary Molzan’s love of the West brought him to Boulder, Colorado, in 1981. Inspired by the magnificent scenery and close proximity to the mountains. He draws much of the vision for his paintings from hiking in the surrounding foothills and high country. Gary has a fascination for detail like the patterns in an old tree or the sparkle of granite and water. These details in his art touch the viewer and create a connection to nature and an awareness of the natural world that we are all a part of. He works in a variety of mediums to capture the details, mood and emotions of a scene including oil, acrylic, soft pastels, and water colors. Molzan’s work will be on exhibit in UCAR Gallery I of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) October 30, 2017 to December 29, 2017.
Mark Zirinsky creates stunning aluminum sculptures from his Denver, Colorado studio. He individually designs and crafts each piece from salvaged aircraft aluminum using a combination of gem carving, machining and hand techniques. Surfaces are engraved with many lines to produce fascinating surface iridescence and reflective effects. His work appears deceptively simple, yet somehow familiar. Counter intuitively, the beauty of Mark’s work is best revealed under low lighting. Zirinsky’s work will be on exhibit in UCAR Gallery II of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) October 30, 2017 to December 29, 2017.
