Art Space Directory FAQ

The Art Space Directory is a matchmaking tool to connect creative people with creative art spaces.  Owners and managers of rentable spaces submit listings to the directory, and space-seekers search the directory for opportunities.

No.  Use of the BCAA Art Space Directory is completely free of charge for space-seekers, and there are no fees to submit and publish listings.

You do not need to log-in to browse or search the Art Space Directory.

You do need to register and log-in to submit Art Space listings.  Creating a log-in account allows you to submit, edit, or delete any of your listings, so you have the ability to update your spaces as circumstances change.  There are no obligations for registering or submitting Art Space listings, and we never share your private information with anyone else.

From the BCAA homepage, select the Art Spaces item on the main menu bar then select “Find a Space.”  This link will show you a list of all spaces added or updated most recently. This is useful if you’re a regular user and only want to see new listings.

To narrow your search, click the “Filter” button, enter your search criteria, and click the “Apply Filters” button.  Note the search criteria are “X AND Y” cumulative options, not “X OR Y” options.  In other words, clicking both “Paid Parking” and “Free Parking” will return only spaces that have both “Paid AND Free Parking.”

Once you apply a filter, you’ll see a list of spaces to the left of your screen, and a map of those spaces on the right.

On the search results page, there will be a map on the right side of your screen. It will automatically zoom to include all of the spaces that matched your search criteria. If you want to narrow the scope of your search by area, simply zoom in towards that area in the map.

No.  The information is maintained by the venue managers and is not verified by Boulder County Arts Alliance.  Please contact us if you notice incorrect information and we’ll contact the venue or take down the listing.

From the BCAA homepage, select the Art Spaces item on the main menu bar then select “Submit a Space.”  Only registered users can submit space listings, so you may be asked to log-in or register.

Give the space a descriptive name and select the venue where this space is located from the preset list.  If your venue location is not in the list, then you must first create a venue.

Once you’ve selected the venue location, you can provide details in each of the sections: Basic Info, Contact Info, Rental Terms, Availability, Photos, Files, Details, and Amenities.

As you work your way through the information, remember that these will become the qualities by which people will search for your space.

Once you submit a Venue or Art Space, it must be approved by our content moderator before it will display publicly in the Directory.  The approval process may take up to 24-48 hours, and you will receive an email notification once the review is complete.

A Venue is a physical location on a map. It is usually a building with a unique street address, and contains one or more Art Spaces.  You must first create a venue before you can submit a space.

An Art Space is a rentable room (or outdoor area, or suite of rooms, or part of a room) at a Venue location. The space is the thing you are promoting, and it’s what space-seekers are seeking.  One or more Art Spaces are contained in a Venue.

The Art Space Directory is dedicated to spaces for creative use. We do not publish spaces for yoga, fitness, Pilates, events or functions, unless your space can clearly be adapted to creative use and you have described the creative potential of your space.

Our requirements are that the space is suitable for some form of creative practice.  That might be space to develop, practice, perform, make, display, exhibit or construct creative work.  You should be seeking people in the arts community to fill or occupy your space.

As a quick guide:

SUITABLE: Dance studios, music venues, rehearsal spaces, offices with a creative focus, galleries, photography studios, co-working spaces with creative practice as core business.

NOT SUITABLE: fitness/Pilates/yoga studios, corporate offices, event, party and function spaces - unless they can be tailored for creative use.

YES!  At least one photo is required for each Venue and Art Space.

Please upload an exterior photo of your Venue to help space-seekers identify your facility.

You can upload up to ten photos for each Art Space listing.  These are usually photos of the interior spaces of a Venue that give space-seekers a feel for the environment.

When multiple photos are uploaded for an Art Space, the first photo will be used as the cover image in the main Art Space Directory list.

Log-in to your account on the Boulder County Arts Alliance website and go to your Palette Page.

Click the link titled “Submissions” in the box that shows your name.

Find your Venue or Art Space in the list or use the search box to search for a title.

Once found, click the Edit or Delete link on the right side under Actions.

When you edit a Venue or Art Space, the listing is removed from the public directory until the changes have been approved by our content moderator (usually up to 24-48 hours).

The default order for search results is “most recently edited.” The user may also sort results by date created, alphabetical order, or most viewed. If you want your spaces to appear higher in the results, you could try editing the listing – this will push it higher until it’s displaced by more recently edited listings.
